Elopement at the Royal Library Garden, Then Ice Cream

3 min read

Sam and Roni first met on a first date at a local coffee shop. A quick coffee date ended up lasting several hours. They've been together for five years now. They love to travel, hike, backpack, take care of their garden, and just spend time together. It's so cute, they're together almost all the time and they do everything together. They're just like best friends.

They came all the way from the US to get married, but this wasn't their first time in Copenhagen like it is for most couples who come here to elope. This elopement was actually their fourth visit to Copenhagen. It's clearly a very special place for them.

Planning the Elopement

Sam also asked me before the elopement day if we could do a first look, which was important to her. Sam had also written to me before the elopement day that she wanted a newspaper made, one that said they eloped along with the date, 8th of September 2026. It was such a sweet detail, and it turned into one of my favorite parts of their whole session. She also told me they really wanted to go to Ismageriet for ice cream afterward, because they both love it and eat it all the time. When they're in Copenhagen, they go almost every day. They're obsessed.

Sam worked with an agency called Marry Abroad Simply, which is one of the agencies I recommend to my clients often because they're professional and friendly, and I know my couples will be in safe hands with them. Together they decided the ceremony would be held at the Garden of the Royal Library.

The First Look

The day came, and it was important for Sam. She asked me before the elopement day if it would be okay to do a first look. So we did the first look, and of course, there's always something unpredictable going on. Roni's Uber came a bit earlier, so I met Roni first and positioned him where I liked how it would look in the pictures with the background. Sam came, but from a different direction than I expected, so we had a bit of logistics to figure out on the spot. Then there was their moment. Then there was the beautiful ceremony. The officiant gave a beautiful speech about Sam and Roni. It was just a perfect elopement!

Ice Cream at Ismageriet

Honestly, so am I obsessed too now, because of how the images turned out. Also, the service at the shop was amazing! While I was shooting at Ismageriet, I noticed I had never seen someone love ice cream as much as Sam. 😄 Then when I was editing the images after the shoot, I kept laughing because, seeing how much she was enjoying it, it was like she forgot about the whole world just her, Roni, and the ice cream. It's one of the sweetest sessions I've ever edited. I even sent Sam a voice message telling her it was pure joy editing this session, especially the ending. I was laughing out loud while editing, which almost never happens, and we joked about it together.

When I sent the gallery, she told me they are obsessed with the photos.

What Comes Next

They're going to have a lovely dinner soon with their family to celebrate. At the dinner, they're going to put the "we eloped" photo with the newspaper sign on the menu, so it'll be a complete surprise for their families, nobody knows yet. Sam promised she'll share some videos with me because I really want to see their reaction. That's their story. We're already planning our next session together in Copenhagen next year, now for a couple session. We agreed it's going to be a morning session, and most probably a boat tour session too.

If you're planning your own elopement or thinking about eloping in Copenhagen, I'd love to hear your story. Get in touch and let's start planning your day.
