Yura and Lilla’s Elopement in Roskilde, Denmark

When Yura and Lilla first messaged me about booking their elopement, they told me the ceremony would take place at the Former Roskilde City Hall. I was so eager to go and check out the space myself and scout some beautiful locations for them. I spent some time scouting a few spots around the city and sent them over to the couple. They loved the locations, and we created a lovely plan for their portraits after the ceremony. The reason they chose the Former Roskilde City Hall is actually a story I love. They had already been there for a friend’s elopement and instantly fell in love with the place. They knew that when it was time for their own day, they wanted to get married there too.
The Former Roskilde City Hall is such a beautiful and historic place for a civil wedding. Roskilde Municipality also offers civil wedding ceremonies there, making it a lovely option for couples looking for a meaningful wedding location outside Copenhagen.
One detail that really stuck with me was the registrar who married Yura and Lilla. He holds his meetings in that very same beautiful room where couples say their vows. (Check the gallery below) Just imagine working in an environment like that every day, surrounded by all that history and love. It really is such a special place to call an office.
Lilla’s parents travelled all the way from Switzerland for the occasion, while Yura’s sister, who already lives in Denmark with her family, was there to celebrate with them too.
The Ceremony and the Quiet Moments After
After the ceremony, we took some formal family and group photographs outside the city hall.
Yura had actually emailed me the day before and asked if they could bring a Polaroid camera so I could capture one or two photos of them with it. Of course, I loved the idea. Their Polaroids were really special to them, and I was happy to create a few little memories they could keep with them.
I always recommend to my couples that they avoid carrying too many things during their session. Keeping everything relaxed and easy is really important to me. The last thing I want is for a couple to be worrying about bags, cameras, or personal belongings while they are supposed to be enjoying their wedding day.
So, right after the group photographs, we took their Polaroid photos. Once we were finished, we handed the Polaroid camera and everything else over to their family, who kindly carried it all for them.
From that point on, Yura and Lilla only had their phones and maybe a small wallet with them.
It might sound like a small detail, but it makes such a difference. They could simply walk, talk, laugh, and enjoy being together without having to think about what they were carrying.
Then it was just the three of us, off to explore a few beautiful corners of Roskilde while their family waited for them at a restaurant that Lilla and Yura had booked for the celebration afterwards.
One of the places we stopped at was Byparken, a beautiful green space in Roskilde that gave us a completely different setting from the historic city centre. It was the perfect little change of scenery for their portraits, with nature, open space and beautiful light.
And honestly, I absolutely love Roskilde. It is a smaller city, but it has so much charm. The historic streets, beautiful architecture, green spaces, and quiet little corners make it such a lovely place for an elopement.
And the light that day was just perfect. Soft and golden in all the right places. It was one of those dream elopement days that photographers hope for every time they pick up their camera.
Yura and Lilla wanted their session to feel relaxed, so they intentionally booked extra time with me. No rushing, no forcing moments, and no trying to fit everything into a tiny window. Just the two of them, moving through their day naturally. That extra time gave us the freedom to explore Roskilde, stop whenever we found a beautiful spot and simply enjoy the afternoon. And I think that is one of the most important things when planning an elopement: give yourself enough time to actually enjoy it.
A Beautiful Roskilde Elopement
Looking through their gallery now, I can see all the little things that made their day so special: their families travelling from different countries, the meaningful connection they already had with the Former Roskilde City Hall, their little Polaroid memories, the beautiful vows they exchanged, and the quiet moments they shared together after the ceremony. It really was one of those beautifully relaxed elopement days that reminds me why I love documenting intimate weddings so much.
