Emily & Brett's Copenhagen City Hall Elopement

Emily and Brett flew all the way from Australia to elope in Copenhagen. No guest list. No seating chart. Just the two of them, six and a half years in, saying yes at Copenhagen City Hall.

How They Met

Some couples meet on an app. Emily and Brett met through mutual friends, out on a few nights that turned into something more. Six and a half years later, they're still doing the simple things well. Holidays together. Movie nights. Long walks. Good food, always.

Three words to describe their relationship: fun, affectionate, easy. No drama, no performance. Just two people who like being around each other. That's exactly the energy they brought into their elopement day.

Why Copenhagen City Hall

Copenhagen City Hall is one of my favourite elopement locations in the city, and it's easy to see why. Hand-painted murals, marble staircases, brass details on every railing, tall windows looking out over the courtyard. It gives you drama without needing a single prop.

For Emily and Brett, it also gave us range. A few grand, composed frames on the staircase. A few unusual ones hidden in corners most guests would walk straight past. And in between, the candid stuff, the laughing, the in-jokes, the moments neither of them noticed I was capturing.

The Shots

Under the hand-painted tree tapestry in the old assembly hall, hands together, eyes on each other.

On the marble staircase, brass rails and all. A quieter kind of grand. Framed in a doorway out on the balcony, Danish flags hanging behind them. This one only works because they weren't performing for it.

Settled into a window bench, courtyard trees behind the glass, laughing about something only the two of them will ever know.

My Approach to Directing Couples

I don't pose couples. I give direction that feels natural, a prompt here, a nudge there, and let them fall into their own rhythm. No overly romantic set-ups, no cheese, just two people acting like themselves in a beautiful building.

Couples who've been together this long don't need me to invent chemistry. It's already there. My job is to get out of the way and let it show, whether that's on the City Hall staircase or a blurry, half-laughing moment between poses.
