Jason & Ella’s Copenhagen Proposal Photoshoot

When Plans Change for the Better

Jason and Ella came all the way from Hong Kong to Denmark for their beautiful proposal shoot. Originally, they had their hearts set on Nyhavn for a photo session. It’s a famous and colorful harbor, but as a photographer, I know it gets super crowded, especially in the late afternoon or sunset. On top of that, there was construction going on right where Jason wanted to propose. What made me laugh was when Jason asked, “Do you think they’ll finish the construction in two days?” I thought he was joking! But he really meant it. Turns out, in Hong Kong, they finish big construction jobs in a day or two. I was in shock! Here in Denmark… well, let’s just say things take a little more time. 😊

Good news is that the construction at Nyhavn is actually making the pavement wider (and is already finished while you read this blog post), which is great news for everyone, especially for photographers, more space to enjoy and more space for photos!

A Hidden Gem in Christianshavn

Since Nyhavn wasn’t ideal, I suggested a spot in Christianshavn. It’s a hidden gem I really love for proposals. Quiet, romantic, and full of charm. Jason went for it, and Ella gave her thumbs-up too.

The idea was to do a “surprise proposal during the photo session.” That means we plan a normal photoshoot, when the other partner doesn't know about the proposal, but they are aware that there will be a photo session. When we reach our spot, I give a small cue for when it’s time to pop the question. This way, everything feels more relaxed and natural, and I love proposals during the photo session just for that reason. You can read our blog post about Surprise Proposal Photo Session vs Proposal During Photo Session - to find what would be the best fit for your own proposal. Jason also chose the Premium Package, which meant we had time to enjoy Christianshavn fully and also explore extra spots like Nyhavn and even Rosenborg Castle.

When Jason proposed, the lighting wasn’t perfect right away. But that actually made editing even more fun. You’ll see what I mean in the before and after photos on our Instagram. It’s such a good reminder of how a little magic in the editing process can bring out the best in every moment. What mattered most, though, was the emotion. Right when Jason got down on one knee, people on boats nearby (a little tipsy on GoBoats!) started cheering. Even folks watching from balconies joined in with big congratulations. It felt like the whole city was celebrating with us. When I walked over to Ella to congratulate her, she was crying tears of joy. It was such a touching moment, I honestly felt my heart break in the best way.

Big shoutout to Jason, too. He brought flowers and a veil! I asked about the veil, and he told me it’s a trend in Hong Kong, when you get proposed to, you also wear a veil. I guess its a new trend as my previous couple haven't done this. 😊 So sweet! I asked Ella if she knew it was coming when he touched her hair, and she said yes, smiling through tears.

Few moments from Behind the Scenes of the Proposal:

After the Big Proposal moment

After the proposal, we wandered through Christianshavn, passed by Nyhavn again, and ended the shoot at Rosenborg Castle. The light, the laughter, and their love made it all unforgettable.

And let me tell you, I couldn’t wait to get home and work on these photos. Editing them was pure joy. It’s sessions like this, and couples like Jason and Ella, that remind me why I love love and most of all capturing it. Whether it’s proposals, elopements, or full weddings, capturing these stories is what fills my heart.

Nertila isn’t just a photographer—she’s a full-on proposal magician! ✨

We still can’t get over how she turned our Copenhagen engagement into a straight-up fairy tale with her insane talent. Like, how does she even find those secret romantic spots?! And the way she captured every laugh, tear, and stolen glance? My fiancée (!!!) was obsessed with the result! (also the magician!)

Beyond her next-level skills, Nertila’s the kind of person who makes you forget there’s even a camera around. She had us laughing, relaxed, and totally us—which is why the pics feel so real. If you’re looking for a proposal photographer who actually delivers magic, go with Nertila—1000% worth it for these once-in-a-lifetime memories. Thank you for making everything perfect!
